How do I patch a rip on a bicycle seat?

bicycle seats
Gary Lee asked:

There is a small C shaped tear on the top of my vinyl bicycle seat. It probably measures about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long and I want to stop it from getting any larger. How can I patch this? I have never had this issue before and I live in a very remote town without any kind of bike shop. TIA!

Our Answer

I am not sure on this one, but I know they sell vinyl patch repair kits at automotive stores. I don't know how well they would hold up with the body weight working on it all the time. Maybe someone else has a better idea?

I think the real fix is to probably pony up a few bucks and buy a replacement bike saddle. That's the proper way to fix it.

Funny thing but you asked a question on the world wide web so even being in a remote town as you are, You have EVERY bike shop in the world at your keyboard so all you have to do is purchase a new seat instead of patching the old one with duct tape which wont last long anyway!

tape doesn;t really work for long
    too much heat and friction

the fix method would depend on the exact material used on the seat
something to melt/weld it with another piece of the same stuff would be best
without knowing what it is, you are just shooting in the dark
    don;t expect a good fix

The cut is to too big to repair, time to order a new one online.

You could try using crazy glue but duct tape works too. A new seat would be your best bet.
