I previously had the old (non-GelFlow) SLK saddle, and I loved it. It was one of the only saddles I've owned that I could ride all day without experiencing any discomfort. I initially replaced my old SLK with the very lightweight SLR, but it's not a split saddle design, and was very uncomfortable for me.
I bought this one and it's been night and day. This saddle is as comfortable, if not more so, than my old SLK. I actually had to replace the old one because after so many miles of riding, the leather had started to wear off the sides of the saddle, which in turn started shredding my shorts.
This saddle is not the lightest saddle, about 100g heavier than the SLR. For the money, I would have liked to get a bit lighter weight. Also, I'm not sure I like the stitching on the outside of the saddle. It appears the "gel" pocket is stitched in place with stitches around the perimeter of the saddle. Unfortunately, some of the stitching wraps around the side of the saddle, right where my legs rub the side of the saddle with each pedal stroke. I'm afraid of shredding my shorts again, so we'll have to see how this works out. If my shorts develop holes, I may have to alter my review.
But, for now, comfort rules out and I really like how comfortable it is. If there are no issues with my shorts developing rips in them, then it's a perfect saddle to me. |
