The saddle is only half of the picture.

You must also get yourself some good quality (padded) cycling shorts, and wear them without underwear.

My preference in saddles is currently SellaItalia SLR. It's not for everyone because it's fairly minimalistic (and not inexpensive), but if you ride a lot then you can soon appreciate it's qualities.

that all depends on what kind of riding you are doing and your personal preferences. Being a roadie I'm a fan of hard, narrow saddles. I ride a Bontrager race xxx carbon saddle, something probably out of your price range unless you can find a deal like I did.

For more general cycling, I have heard great things about brooks saddles, just be sure to give them 200 or so miles to fully break in before you pass judgment.

As for the impotency issue, that has more to do with adjustments and riding form than the actual saddle.

Here is a great article about saddles, it even discusses the impotency issue:

I currently ride a terry fly carbon saddle. It's my second terry saddle and I have nothing but praise for it.
I've ridden several others SelleItalia, Fizik, Selle San Marco. And like this saddle the best.

Any seat that you put all of your weight on all of the time is going to cause problems. Grinding your prostate to oatmeal means you are doing everything wrong. I hate Bontrager seats that the guy above me mentioned....hate em. Still have nightmares.

comfort is subjective. what i find comfortable and what you find comfortable is going to be different. bontrager makes some nice inform saddles. they are different sizes to support different sized sitbones. check them out. they are pretty cool

The saddles from Specialized are very comfortable and I found them to work very well for me. They eliminated numbness and chafing....I use the Specialized Alias and would recommend it. I agree with that other guy though that you should at least ride for a few weeks just to make sure that you've given your butt enough time to break in.

Don't worry about the seat until you ride the bike for a while and have the opportunity to make some small adjustments.
